Prophet 9 of 25

Ishaq (Isaac)

إسحاق

The promised son of Ibrahim and Sarah

Symbolic scene from the story of Ishaq (Isaac)
They refused the roasted calf. Then they said why they came

Ibrahim and his wife Sarah had grown old together, childless. Then angel guests arrived, the same ones traveling on to the people of Lut, and delivered news that made Sarah laugh out loud in disbelief: a son, Ishaq, and beyond him a grandson, Yaqub (Quran 11:71).

She was elderly and barren; her husband was an old man. The angels' answer settled the matter forever: “Do you marvel at the decree of God? The mercy and blessings of God are upon you, O people of the house.” (11:73). Ishaq was born, grew into “a prophet, one of the righteous.” (37:112), and through him ran the second great river of prophets: Yaqub, Yusuf, Musa, Dawud, Sulayman, Isa, while his brother Ismail's line carried the final Messenger ﷺ.

The lesson to keep

Lesson: “Too late” is a human idea. Allah's promises don't check birth certificates.
