Prophet 18 of 25

Sulayman (Solomon)

سليمان

Son of Dawud; the kingdom like no other

Symbolic scene from the story of Sulayman (Solomon)
He asked for what no one else would ever hold

Sulayman inherited his father's kingdom and prophethood, then prayed the boldest dua in scripture: “My Lord, forgive me, and grant me a kingdom never to be attained by anyone after me.” (Quran 38:35). Allah granted it in full: the wind traveled at his command, a month's journey morning and evening; jinn built and dived for him; and he was taught the speech of birds and animals.

The scale never went to his head. Hearing an ant warn her colony to shelter from his passing army, he smiled and prayed for gratitude (27:19). A hoopoe bird brought intelligence about Saba and its sun-worshipping queen, Bilqis; a wise letter, a demonstration of impossible power, and a famous glass-floored court led her to declare: “I have submitted with Solomon, to God, Lord of the Worlds” (27:44). His own verdict on his empire says everything: “This is from the grace of my Lord, to test me, whether I am grateful or ungrateful.” (27:40).

The lesson to keep

Lesson: Blessings are a test in disguise. Gratitude is how you pass.
