Why were all the prophets men?
It was never about who is worth more. It was about who would carry the heaviest job there is.

If men and women are equal in Islam, why were all the prophets men?
It is a fair question, and it has a real answer.
Are men and women equal in Islam?
In the way that matters most, yes.
Allah says whoever does good, man or woman, and believes, will enter Paradise and will not be wronged even a little. He says He will not let the work of anyone go to waste, male or female.
Same prayer. Same fasting. Same reward. Same Paradise.
And He says the best of you in His sight is the one with the most taqwa. Not the man. Not the woman. The one who is most careful with Allah.
Equal in worth does not mean identical in role.
So why are the roles different?
Because Allah made us different on purpose.
Only women carry a child, give birth and feed that child from their own body. No man has ever been given that.
Nobody calls that a sign that women are better. It is a role. A heavy one, and an honored one.
Prophethood is the same kind of thing.
Being a prophet was not a prize
Look at what it actually meant.
Ibrahim (AS) was thrown into a fire. Yusuf (AS) was locked in prison for years for something he did not do. Musa (AS) had to stand in front of Pharaoh, the most powerful king of his time, and tell him he was wrong.
Nabi ﷺ was mocked and driven out of his home town. Allah tells us they planned to lock him up, kill him or throw him out.
That is not a reward. It is a weight. Allah knows His creation better than we do, and He chose men to carry it.
What does the Quran actually say?
Three times, in almost the same words, Allah says every messenger He sent before Nabi ﷺ was a man. It is in Surah Yusuf, Surah an-Nahl and Surah al-Anbiya.
Scholars agree every messenger was a man. A few, like al-Qurtubi, held that Maryam (AS) received revelation as a prophet, though she was never sent as a messenger. Most scholars disagree. Either way, no one says it makes her less.
Then look at Maryam
Allah chose Maryam above every other woman in the world. The angels told her so themselves.
When Allah wants to show all believers, men and women, what real faith looks like, He points to two women. One is Maryam. The other is the wife of Pharaoh.
Nabi ﷺ said the same. Many men reached the top in faith, but among women only these two did (Sahih al-Bukhari 3411).
She was not sent as a messenger. Yet every believing man is told to look up to her.
Think of a king
A king gives one person the job of judge, another the army, another a city to run.
The jobs are different. That does not make the judge a better human being than the governor.
Allah hands out responsibilities by His wisdom, not by our idea of who ranks higher.
What to do
- When someone asks this, start with the Paradise verses, not the roles.
- Read Surah Maryam this week and see how Allah talks about her.
- Teach your children the names of the great women of the Quran as well as the men.
- Measure yourself by your taqwa, not by what you were or were not given.
What not to do
- Do not use this to say men are better than women.
- Do not wave the question away. It deserves a real answer.
- Do not confuse a different role with a lower place.
- Do not forget that the reward is the same for the same deed.
One last thing
The question is not who Allah gave the heaviest job to.
It is what you are doing with the job He gave you.
